The Last Goodbye

Dawn rises blood-red, shredding the night's heavy cloak.

Searching for hours, his hope is seeping away;
little drops of painful time fall and disappear in the absence.

He calls out; his need answered by silent emptiness of faraway echoes.

In an abandoned house he finds him: a broken doll, cast away; the toy of a petulant child.
A life lost, a love dead. Blood-red loss.

A hand wanders over the cold skin he once offered his burning kisses.

He cannot form words for this, their last goodbye.
