29th-May-11 17:07 - HP Beholder Quick Rec - Before the Reveals...
A quick list of [info]hp_beholder recs before the reveal today. As I have very little time, I had to skip a few of the longer fics, but I look forward to read and perhaps rec some of those later - there are quite a few that look very interesting.

Dolores on the Dotted Line - FIC: Umbridge/Various. Brilliant characterisation, spot-on Umbridge, and with a twist. Great read.

A String of Visions - FIC: Fat Friar/Various. Romance... Beautiful prose. Somehow this pattern of memories works very strongly to create an idea of how a ghost might feel.

The Unexpected Gift - FIC: Dudley/Millicent. Great little classical romance fic with a great, moving backstory, brilliant characterisation and much sweetness without being saccharine.

Can't Stop (Try My Lies) - FIC: Draco/Goyle. Gritty. Beautifully written, but sad. Great read, nevertheless. Adds more to Goyle as a minor character. 1st person POV that really works.

Inauspicious - FIC: A short portrait of Abraxas. 1,500 words of very well-turned-out fic.

At the Local Watering Hole - ART: Great gen Molly-Arthur art. Lovely, secure style.

Also a repeat rec: My gift, the incomparable, funny, interesting Marriage Acts, based loosely on the infamous Marriage Act Challenge. An absolutely perfect gift featuring two of my favourite characters, Abraxas and Percy.

ETA: Adding yet another rec to the above: Principles Before Personalities - FIC: Dudley/Harry(!). A long fic which never at any point feels boring. Believable character development and nice insight in what Dudley is going through. Interesting read with the right touch of romance. I am becoming increasingly interested in Dudley and many the writers who do him are so very good - something this fic shows very well.
9th-April-11 17:50 - HALP!
As I'm fighting PayPal for the second year I don't have access to my account - is someone willing to swap a some IJ gift certificates with either paid LJ-time or other payable-with-SLs-card goods?

*stabs PayPal with pointy stake*

Thanks, Sab (and to Torino for offering, too). <3
3rd-April-11 16:21 - Fail! LJ
Is it just me or has the LJ "repost feature" just reemerged? Yes, the thingie which makes it possible to "share" (others might call it "steal") another poster's post and put the thing into LJ, Twitter, FB and so on. (The icon with a tilted V on it)

Also, why hasn't LJ announced this? (Obviously with good reason, since I doubt that people are happy with this if they knew.)

I feel the need to find fail!macros now.

ETA: Oh yes... they hid it down in the last News post - which they had labelled with a headline of unimportant stuff...

Share tool: In response to user requests, we've replaced the "Share This" tool with an improved, homemade sharing tool. You can click on this icon () to share posts on LiveJournal, Facebook, Twitter, Digg, Tumblr, Stumbleupon, or by email.

Isn't it just lovely... your posts shared all over the Internet, reposted on Facebook by anyone who happen to use it. LJ, this one is just about the worst you've made in a very long time. Not on. SO not on! And of course you can't disable it, because we all think this is such a good idea.
21st-January-11 10:54 - And the fun just continues...
My uncle (father's brother), the one without cancer, died this morning. And my mother's aunt (unrelated to any of the uncles), who were well three days ago is now in a coma and is probably gone in a few days.

*headdesks* If this continues, I'll have no family left come February.
16th-January-11 11:01 - World, plz to be stopping fucking my family over!
Last week one of my parents' best friends through 40 years died. Very sad, he was truly a good and lovable person. I'm going to miss him.

Today, oh woe, news were that my other uncle (my father's brother) is going to hospital to be... kept on a lovely diet of various painkillers because he is in a lot of pain and refuses to eat - which basically means that he'll be dead in a few weeks. He's been ill for years, though, but physically okayish. Not anymore.

Tomorrow, the other hospital and the other terminally ill uncle (mother's brother in law) will get final results from the tests - the doctors discovered that his heart was close to say goodbye too.

My parents are, to say it mildly, not well. My father isn't speaking to anyone, and my mother just cries. So much fun to be had.
10th-January-11 15:02 - A new year... and the Kingsley/Neville gift from Caladan. Yay!
I've had the most stressful and busy January until now, and unfortunately it seems as if it is going to continue. I'm in the middle of exams and ... yeah. Perhaps if every day had 50 hours, then I'd manage. Three essays in two weeks and an oral exam on top of it. And I haven't had enough time to study...

Also, why does this post look like every other post mentioning exams... Perhaps I should learn from that?

Naaaah. :D

I mentioned earlier that [info]caladan_dd, despite her busy life (worse than mine!) took the time to draw and present me with a lovely Neville/Kingsley New Year's gift, and I can show you eeet because it's MINE! OMG! *bounces*
I love this so much. The funny thing is that I basically see Kingsley as a taller, broader and older version of DB Woodside, and Caladan didn't know that, except it seems she did... <3

I'm not sure if Caladan is posting this over at her journal, so if you want to comment on it, I'm sure she'll see your comment here.

9th-January-11 22:00 - Last Kinky Kristmas Recs
Last KK recs before reveals tomorrow...

All works are currently unrevealed, so anonymous artists/authors all of them...

Watching, Waiting, Willing
Pairing: Charlie/Harry
Why you should read this: It is just the sexiest, hottest UST-voyeur-magic-fun fic. Good flow, flawless IC Charlie. Also, Potter is his usual clueless self, trying to find someone else to blame. He almost succeeds. I was grinning (some might call it "smirking", my non-existing love for Potter taken into consideration) the whole way through this. :D
Author/Artist's Summary: Harry shouldn't want him, certainly shouldn't be staring and fantasising every time Charlie's near. He's lost control of himself. The mistletoe – meaning George – must be to blame.

Right Where I Want You
Pairing: Sirius/Severus - ART NWS!
Why you should see this: School boy fondling and Sevvie's face... OMG! This not-so-anonymous artist is just... good.
Author/Artist's Notes: Cocky, flippant Sirius and awkward Snape in mid-orgasm...

Only Now I See The Light
Pairing: Charlie/Scorpius
Why you should read this: The pairing works so well. A rough, loving Charlie, and a Scorpius who is nice, but still with a bit of his father's brattiness... and hot, lovely sex plus a well written story. Not so much plot, but delightfully written characters, thoughts and nekkid bits - oh, and great dialogue.
Author/Artist's Summary: Scorpius invites himself to the Weasley Christmas get-together. Could it possibly be that he has an ulterior motive??! Naaah!

In The Bleak Mid-Winter
Pairing: Snape/Minerva
Why you should read this: Because you have not read Minerva like that before. Guh! Brilliant 1st person narrative, and certainly an interesting Minerva. Severus enjoys it.
Author/Artist's Summary: Minerva had always kept her pleasures to herself. Until Severus knocked on her door that Christmas Eve...

Tainted Love
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Why you should read this: Yeah, yeah, rent!boy story, H/D... trite... But the story is well-written, Harry is relaxing in his new job and well... 10K of pleasant, well-written classic whore!Harry fic.
Author/Artist's Summary: He was a secret gigolo until a mysterious man hired him one night – a man who knew surprising facts about his past. Harry has left the Wizarding World and is making a living in a rather surprising way, but he loves his work and has a nice, calm life. Until someone who seems to recognise him appears on the scene – and Harry isn't keen on being recognised.

How Lavender Brown Learned to Hate Christmas...
Pairing: George/Lavender
Why you should read this: Recced everywhere, but if you haven't read it, due to het, pairing, whatever, do it anyway because this is fun. Banter, sarcasm, George's various samples from the shop... Read eeeet!
Author/Artist's Summary: You can only appreciate true hatred of the Christmas holiday season if you work retail.

Tonight We're Gonna Party (Like It's 1999)
Pairing: Ginny and a helluvalot Weasleys - Bill, Charlie, Fred and George
Why you should read this: Damned hot sex and that's about it - apart from the brilliant characterisation. Porn at its best.
Author/Artist's Summary: When Ginny attempts to solve the mystery of her older brothers' annual disappearance, she finds the answer is more than she bargained for.
3rd-January-11 10:06 - Fest Gift Rec Post
I have received a few wonderful gifts during the holidays, and from Kinky Kristmas no less than three! OMG! Also, I got a perfect surprise New Year's gift by mail the other day, from my sweet, wonderful [info]caladan_dd, and I will show you eeet, if I am allowed. Neville & Kingsley... Mmmmm! Now, how delicious is that? So... here are the three KK gifts, and a Yuletide one. Thank you, all my more or less mysterious writers and artists - you made my holidays great by writing and drawing such perfect gifts for me. *kisses*

A Clean and Bright Mirror
Pairing: Percy/Snape
Why you should read this: Perfect Percy/Snape. It is beautifully written in a descriptive, varied language, the sex is so far from trite as you can come, and the background and characterisation is vivid and perfectly underlining the progress in the relationship. I wished for uncomfortable nakedness and voyeurism, and the fic include that in a creative, sensual way. It's a very erotic piece, more than dripping hot and I appreciate that a lot - it's not pornish, its erotic - and good erotica. Percy/Snape doesn't get much better than this. And throwing me at titbit in the form of a slice of Walt Witman's poem for a summary and title is just... Yeah. <3 Either this writer knows me very well or they have magic abilities when it comes to writing fics.
Author/Artist's Summary: This day, O Soul, I give you a wondrous mirror;
Long in the dark, in tarnish and cloud it lay—But the cloud has pass’d, and the tarnish gone;
... Behold, O Soul! it is now a clean and bright mirror,
Faithfully showing you all the things of the world.

—Walt Whitman, Leaves of Grass

No Escape Needed
Pairing: Percy/Snape
Why you should read this: Another take on the same slightly voyeuristic theme - also a beautifully written story. Again, Percy takes care of Severus, but this Percy is perhaps just as determined and calm, only he knows another way to see Severus: through Legilimency. "It's over too soon, Severus spending himself in a few short seconds when Percy finds the right memory, a fantasy of the two of them bent over the kitchen sink and rutting together in the lazy afternoon sunlight. He slides over the peak and into orgasm with a gasp, biting his lip to keep from crying out." This is lovely, hot, and the mix of trust, sex and Legilimency is interesting and enjoyable. I like the idea of Percy being strong enough to actually have the nerve to try this.
Author/Artist's Summary: Percy had decided this morning over coffee and porridge that today is the day that he'll try to seduce Severus.

Simply Seeking
Pairing: Severus/Lucius - NWS!
Why you should see this: Ah, this not-very-mysterious artist is one of my fandom favourites and this lovely Snucius is definitely one of my favourites too. A blushing Snape, a determined Lucius (and a voyeuristic Pimp Cane) and hot sex is just lovely. What can I say: I love style, colours... everything.
Artist's Notes: The Christmas after the war was particularly hard. Lucius ended up seeking out the one and only person who accepted him for who he was. In turn, Severus finally found someone he trusted enough to give his body to.

And to my Yuletide gift, a Haru o Daiteita fic, which was clearly written by the other half of my brain, [info]geri_chan, so clearly that there was no guessing involved at any point. :P The fic was therefore catering to my every need and wish. :D

Double Date
Pairing: Mochimune/Miyasaka, Kikuchi/Onozuka (and that, of course, did not scream "Geri wrote this in the least, no, no!")
Why you should read this: Because Geri just does this so well. Oh, you need more reasons? It's a wonderful story in which our dear Director Mochimune (the evil!Snape of the Haru universe) gets his fingers slapped, metaphorically. It's fun. Onozuka (Haru's Draco-with-a-scheming-twist) plans, plots and succeeds in the most delightful way, deciding it would be a grand plan to throw Mochimune and Miyasaka together. Jealousy is in that regard a powerful thing. Even if you don't know Haru o Daiteita, the fic is understandable, so please give it a try - it's a romantic, fun read.
Author/Artist's Summary: Kikuchi and Onozuka decide to set Mochimune and Miyasaka up on a date--except that Mochimune and Miyasaka aren't aware that it's a date.
30th-December-10 15:15 - Major Kinky Kristmas Rec Post - Second Batch!
All works are currently unrevealed, so anonymous artists/authors all of them...

Chromatic
Pairing: Minerva/Tom, Minerva/Luna
Why you should read this: Not the average run-of-the-mill fic. A broken-up story-line, flash-backs and Minerva/Tom are some of the features that might have given this fic fewer readers than it deserves. It is a very well-turned piece of fic - especially the author's description of Tom is particularly unsettling. Please, go give it a chance - it's worth it.
Author/Artist's Summary: 'Post Traumatic Magic Loss,' they had called it, and it had been getting progressively worse since the final battle, some nine months previous. Minerva finds herself increasingly overwhelmed by grief, loss, and the spectre of the future – until help arrives in an unexpected way.

Wound Up in Knots
Pairing: Tonks/Pany
Why you should read this: A gem. Delightfully hot and with a very good understanding of dominance and submission. Well-written and with good characterisation, too, with interesting little titbits of information on background. Tonks is strong and lovely, Pansy determined to get what she needs. OMG, so hot.
Author/Artist's Summary: It takes the unconditional trust of another for Tonks to learn to trust herself again.

Caught Between a Rock and a Hard Place
Pairing: Severus/Sirius (OMG!)
Why you should read this: I don't like Snack. Snack does not make sense. Snack is... no...no! Only, it's not. Because this fic makes sense. It's fun, hot, well written, and the encounter between two Hogwarts students makes sense. It's actually brilliant.
Author/Artist's Summary: A structural collapse, a confession, and a lot of boredom result in something most unexpected.

And Never Brought to Mind
Pairing: Draco/Harry/Hermione
Why you should read this: A short scene after a divorce. Hermione is looking for herself and finds a clue to where she might be in the embrace of the two men. It's a perfect little piece of poetic PWP, hot and beautiful at the same time.
Author/Artist's Summary: No logic or thought, no scars or marks, no past to forget or future to predict. Hermione closes her eyes and lets go.

A Rather Strong Argument
Pairing: Snape/Narcissa (NWS, obviously!)
Why you should see this: Narcissa's arse. As simple as that. (And wonderful use of light and shadow, too.)
Author/Artist's Summary: "Snape needs a little more persuading to help Draco than an old friendship."

Lust in the Time of Sprouting
Pairing: Neville/Ginny
Why you should read this: Very imaginative, and also this is exactly how Neville would be if he were into d/s. (And we know he is, the perv!) Sweet and hot, and with both characters IC.
Author/Artist's Summary: A couple of years post-Hogwarts, Ginny visits Neville for a spot of fun. He and his plants have plans for her.

With the Night Comes the Darkness
Pairing: Fred/George
Why you should see this: I assume you've all seen this by now? Necrophilia is actually... doable without being squicky, while taken serious like this. It is an absolutely gorgeous piece of art. I think this might be the one single most beautiful piece of fanart I've ever seen. And sad. So very sad...
Author/Artist's Summary: Nope...

Swingers
Pairing: Pansy/Ron; Hermione/Draco
Why you should read this: It's hot. Sizzling hot. Also, it takes into consideration the downside of the swinger concept. Use of magic as a plot device is genius. Even if het is not your thing (it definitely isn't mine) then this is truly a good read, also when it comes to the actual sex which is very well-written.
Author/Artist's Summary: Blaise threw the best coin parties in town: all you had to do was show up with something in mind, something your spouse would never do, and drop your coin in the bowl. The magic would do the rest to find your match. One spectacular shag later, you'd worked it out of your system. Theoretically, that is.
27th-December-10 13:00 - Major Kinky Kristmas Rec Post - First Batch
All works are currently unrevealed, so anonymous artists/authors all of them...

Blurring the Lines
Pairing: Harry/Sirius
Why you should read this: Featuring two of the characters in HP that I dislike most, this fic was actually a great read. The fic is marked as dub-con, but I don't think it is, really. On the contrary it is two suffering humans who finally find their own way to relieve one another. It should be hot, and I suppose it is, but the pain and the comfort is what makes this interesting.
Author/Artist's Summary: The Christmas Harry was fifteen was memorable for many things. It was the first time he was really aware of being possessed (or possibly not) by Lord Voldemort. It was the first time he drank firewhiskey. It was the first time... well, those two were firsts enough for anyone...

Touch My Skin to Keep Me Whole
Pairing: Moody/Snape
Why you should read this: Sometimes one simply comes across perfect fics. This is one of them. Language, characterisation, plot... they just fits, seamlessly. In this short fic, the needs and anxieties of a world at war throw two scarred wizards together. A strong, confident Moody, and a similarly strong, but vulnerable and prickly Snape share a house. Moody does obviously see more than most people...
Author/Artist's Summary: Only the first touch is an accident.

Pulse
Pairing: Charlie/Sirius; a bit of Remus/Kingsley
Why you should read this: Beautiful language. As simple as that. Wonderful descriptions and a look into Sirius' mind.
Author/Artist's Summary: Sirius finds himself outside a club; it turns out several other Order members are inside.

...and to all a good night and Merry Christmas Git
Pairing: Sirius/Remus/Severus
Why you should see this: 2 pics, NWS!!! And... GUH! Omg, so hot and detailed and lovely!... Yes. And then you scroll down to see the next picture. Do not have any fluids near the computer. No coffee, no coke, nothing!
Author/Artist's Summary: Nope.

King of Beasts
Pairing: Kingsley/Moody - and ... a surprise.
Why you should read this: Kingsley is willing to do anything for the order, and this author certainly challenges him in the most interesting and unexpected way.
Author/Artist's Summary: Kingsley Shacklebolt's first assignment for the Order of the Phoenix is a beastly one. In some ways. And he hasn't even met Voldemort yet.

Polly's Juices
Pairing:Ron/Draco
Why you should read this: Hot, delicious, filthy!public smexxors-fic. Really good use of magic. The pairing works remarkably well. Fun read.
Author/Artist's Summary: Ron's utterly bored with the war over and nothing but opening George's new shop in Brighton's wizarding district to look forward to. But anonymous sex with a not-so-stranger could give him a new focus.
21st-December-10 12:23 - A day of Christmassy stuff.
My post box was filled with delightful stuff this morning. First a lovely and sweet card from Sab, [info]sabethea, and a similarly lovely card and - SQUEE!!! - fandom buttons from my darling [info]lordhellebore. I have already put the Percy-one on my bag. The other one, a Snupin button will go well with my "summer bag". Thanks, sweeties! <3

Later, the parcel post showed up with a package filled with eatable goodies. Turned out that my mum had cooked an entire Christmas dinner for me with traditional Danish dishes: duck, medisterpølse (Danish sausages), frikadeller (a sort of Danish meatballs), and various other stuff, frozen the entire thing and sent it off yesterday. *laughs* Oh, and there were vaniliekranse, too. (Danish Christmas biscuits). Now all I have to do on Christmas eve (we celebrate on the 24th) is to stuff things in the oven and make potatoes and red cabbage. Yay.

As for the family fun with my dear uncle, the doctors decided that they'd attempt chemo - in the hope that it will diminish the tumours so they'll be able to operate at a later date. A slight hope, but slight... Better than nothing, I suppose. He'll go into chemo tomorrow for the first time, so at least things are moving fast.

Exams are taxing. I'm behind already with reading/writing, which is not good. There won't be much fandom fun until after the 20th Jan. Good thing is that I am reading very interesting stuff, currently - mostly Baudrillard, Lévi-Strauss and Deleuze. One certainly needs to stay awake to appreciate those guys...
18th-December-10 12:24 - Oh, December how I love thee... Not.
Have been off line for some time as the usual "Oh, it's Christmas, let's find some of SLs relatives and let them have cancer" event occurred, this time my uncle - I might have mentioned this earlier, perhaps? However, nothing is sorted out yet, other than we know that he probably has less than a year left. They tried to operate on Monday, and there was nothing to do, couldn't remove anything, it was too much. My mum is especially upset, since my aunt, who has had a very rough life, is more or less carried through life by my uncle whom she met late in life. It is just not fair that they are not allowed to have more time together. My poor aunt! :(

Of course I'm behind with everything: exams, fics, christmas cards (which will now be New Year greetings instead) argh!

If anybody care to beta a longish (approximately 11K, I'm editing now) HP romance fic this week-end (not the usual pairings, though - it's for a fest), please let me know... I need someone who is willing to poke at storyline, inconsistencies and character. *kisses [info]red_day_dawning*
15th-November-10 14:03 - F-list! I need your help! "Politeness"
Yes, I have decided to write something about this( for me, hitherto ignored irrelevant ridiculous unrecognised) concept and I need your help, f-list. It's not for publication, except in a uni essay about concepts of politeness in Japanese and English - everything will be anonymised, obviously.

What I am looking for is which terms/adjectives you associate with being polite, and politeness. Just a short list, no explanations necessary, but in case you feel an urge to elaborate it will be highly appreciated. (What is it to be polite, which properties does the concept include (in your opinion)? What's your definition of politeness? Essential features of politeness as a concept?)
12th-November-10 23:22 - Fic: Lost in the Abyss Between Yes and No (Kingsley/Neville; PG, 2/13)
Title: Lost in the Abyss Between Yes and No
Pairing: Kingsley/Neville
Rating: PG
Word Count: ~1,150
Summary: Almost by accident Kingsley has asked Professor Longbottom out. However, the shy, young professor is a bit quicker than Kingsley might have counted on. And more direct.
Author's Notes: This is a series of loosely connected stand-alones. The first is Peace and Cool Water.

Lost in the Abyss Between Yes and No )
10th-November-10 17:02 - Fic: Peace and Cool Water (Kingsley/Neville; PG) 1/13
Title: Peace and Cool Water
Pairing: Kingsley/Neville
Rating: PG
Word Count: ~1,000
Warnings: Possibly triggering for PTSD-sufferers (war and DH deaths).
Notes: This will possibly be a series of connected stand-alones. Also, I blame Alisanne for writing this pairing so deliciously that I couldn't let them be. :D
Summary: The war is over, but Kingsley still can't sleep at night.

Peace and Cool Water )
10th-November-10 12:39 - Recs and the weekly groaning over faildom.
Could someone kill this week, please? And last week too?

I shall say this only once twice trice: It annoys me when I write something for others and they don't care to recognise the existence of the fic/drabble/art/crap. I don't want them to wax poetically over the brilliance of it, (or even like it) but a simple "thank you for your effort" would be nice. Not making it better when it happens in fests, really. I am going to consider seriously that I should make a list of those unloved productions.

Anyway, here are two of last week's fics that I appreciate very much. Recs:

Worth the Wait by [info]alisanne. Kingsley/Neville; NC-17, 2,500 words.
I blame Alisanne! It is entirely her fault. I mean, I love Neville. I love Kingsley. Putting the two of them together = pure genius. Must. Write. Now! And all because I read this lovely little fic over at [info]daily_deviant. It's hot, sweet, and with Kingsley and Neville very much in character. Neville is his usual calm self, and Kingsley is indeed a brave man. Go read this nice fic with a twist. DD pr0n at its best!
Author's Summary: Neville finally finds someone who truly appreciates him.

Words are Over-rated by [info]kabal42. Lewis/Hathaway, PG (smexx implied, yeah!)
Kabal wanted to write a drabble for me, and this erm... 1,700 word drabble is brilliant. For those of you who don't know Lewis, it's the sequel to the Inspector Morse series - great British telly when it's best. This fic is about Hathaway and about how to deal with the cuelty of fate when one's own experiences clash with those of the crimes one is solving. Hurt/comfort the British stiff upper lip way - to a point. Then Hathaway and Lewis have ways to solve things. Canon-compliant to 4.1.
Author's Summary: It's all a bit much for Sergeant Hathaway right now and Lewis knows it. That doesn't mean he knows how to fix it.
3rd-November-10 17:00 - I hate that book!
I am exhausted. I read Jeanette Winterson's Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit this morning, followed by a lengthy discussion about it in class. I don't think I've ever been as depressed or emotionally exhausted after reading (some of) a book. I couldn't finish it, it was simply too much.

Basically, reading it made me almost physically ill, and the discussion extremely annoying as one of my fellow student are a devout muslim who dominated most of the discussion with -- to me -- appalling ideas about Christianity. I prefer never to discuss religion with anyone, being a former theologian, as I usually run into the fact that people *think* they know a lot about religion and don't. Also, my religion or lack of it is nobody else's business.

I am more or less thrown back into my former depression. Can't do anything, but I certainly hope it has passed tomorrow.

ETA: I'm disabling comments. I can't even manage to reply to them without getting ... something unpleasant.
1st-November-10 21:07 - Bittersweet Chocolate (Severus/Remus/Sirius; PG-13ish)
A tiny titbit for [info]lore. Thank you for making [info]hp_halloween such a wonderful fest, Lore! (And also, happy birthday!)

Title: Bittersweet Chocolate
Pairing: Severus/Remus/Sirius (OMG!)
Warning: I think it turned out a bit sad...
Summary: Chocolate and chickens lead Severus on the right path...

Bittersweet Chocolate )
1st-November-10 09:05 - HP Halloween drabbles and recs
Three recs from the 200-word [info]hp_halloween fest:

My gift... it is absolutely brilliant, spot on Severus/Percy, beautifully written.
At Home by [info]starstruck1986. I can't say how much I love my gift. It's perfect!

Next, a lovely and utterly heart-wrenching entry from [info]kellychambliss, Severus/Minerva, With You Always.

Thirdly, the hilarious, cunning Trelawney in [info]_lore's A New Divination, (Trelawney/Lockhart).

I really adore how some writers are able to tell a whole story in so few words.

As I got a gift, I participated too: Severus/Lucius, Darkness Chasing Darkness.
31st-October-10 08:22 - Busy as Usual... and the Rest of the Meme...
First lecture went well (about Harry Potter and literary theories with examples and Harry/Draco! Yes, rly! With pictures! Of H/D snuggling!). People liked, and so did the university, because it seems like I'll be teaching Ezra/Henri Ezra-fu Modernism to the BAs next term. Wheee! Professor Snapelike strikes again... :P

Ah, the rest of the meme...

30 – Do you have a favorite fic you've written? What makes it your favorite? And don't forget to give us a link!
The Mills of Manchester. (47K of Snupin AU) I mentioned this fic before... based on a Snupin Santa prompt from [info]busaikko. I hated that prompt (or rather all three of them) intensely for a few weeks until a monster killer bunny suddenly turned up with a rather odd mix of said prompts. I had so much fun writing and researching this as I am particularly interested in British Industrialism after 1900, in Manchester, textile mills and, well... I love that fic.

29 – What is your current project or projects?
Kinky Kristmas at [info]daily_deviant, [info]yuletide and a sikkrit project that might please one or two on my f-list. :) - Oh, and more Percy/Severus.

28 – Have you ever collaborated with anyone else, whether writing together, or having an artist work on a piece about your fic?
Yes. Lately with [info]geri_chan on a nice little Iwaki/Katou fic. Oh, and as for art, I collaborated with [info]cnary_crem_dght who made lovely, lovely drawings for my Snape/Viktor Kinky Kristmas a few years ago.

27 – Where is your favorite place to write, and do you write by hand or on the computer? Desk, computer. :D

26 – What is the oddest (or funnest) thing you've had to research for a fic?
What the sign at a minor airport in Bulgaria actually said and in which letters. (For the Viktor/Snape mentioned above...)

25 – Music – Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?
No. Only if the neighbour is noisy. And basically, I just want to listen to Combichrist or Suicide Commando if it's music to go with writing. Basically, I prefer silence. Always.

24th-October-10 12:37 - 30-day fanfic Writing Meme, Day 21-24.
Day 21 – Sequels – Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?
Yes. Because I wasn't done with the characters or the world the fic (novel length, obviously) described.

Day 22 – Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?
Er- yes. A lot. I think my favourite experience for me was Snupin Santa a few years ago. I got [info]busaikko's prompts and hated them with an intense hatred for about two weeks during which I considered begging the mods to have mercy and assign me something else. (I am sure most of you can relate to that experience). Yet another week passed by with SL being grumpy and sort of "I really have to do this - luckily it can be short!".

Then the door bell rang (not literally) and in came a giant, major, mature, full-grown perfect bunny. I sat down, did a lot of research on top of what I already knew about the time and world I wanted to write about and wrote 45K in two weeks; never before having had so much fun writing. I love that fic and, luckily, so did [info]busaikko.

Day 23 – When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?
LJ, IJ, and at some point to my in-progress-not-yet-ready-restored website. And occasionally at AO3. I gave up on DW again - it messed up my html. I do not like sites which mess up my HTML.

Day 24 – Betaing – How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your fic? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?
Depends. Usually, for the shorter things, I'm happy if I can coerce someone to look it over for me. For the novel-lengths, preferably two who work more thoroughly. I dislike sending things off unbetaed. No matter how many times I read and correct, there are always some errors in hiding, waiting to embarrass me, making certain that everybody notices that English is not my first language. Grrrr.

20th-October-10 20:59 - This and that and 30-days meme...
[info]hp_halloween - Sign up, dammit! 200 words before Halloween. You can do eeet!!!

I've been busy, and so has JK who went to my university yesterday to get half a million DKK (50K£) for some literary feat I didn't know she had managed, perhaps something about writing good literature. It was supposed to be a literary award, at least. Pffft! (No, I know what it was about!)
Anyway, same procedure as usual in all matters Harry Potter: national telly calls SL as the authority (it's either me, or [info]kabal42 :D) on that topic, so that was what I did yesterday, going on telly to tell people why JK is so popular (not with me, I tell you, but I didn't say that), instead of actually finishing the essay I was doing. Meh. To think that I still care.

Now on to something entirely different:

Day 18 – Where do you get the most inspiration for your fics (aka "bunnies") from?
Two words: Oliver. Wood.
(Basically, it is difficult for me to stop getting random ideas. If I counted, I'd say I probably have at least 2-4 bunnies which could turn into novel-length fics - a day. I write the most interesting ones down. Which is why I have perhaps twenty notebooks filled with bunnies of various sorts.

Day 19 – When you have bunnies, do you sit down and start writing right away, or do you write down the idea for further use?
No. I don't sit. Because... yeah. See 18)

Day 20 – Do you ever get bunnied from other people's stories or art in the same fandom?
No. Once in a while. Only really serious exception is from [info]geri_chan's Nitta Youka fics. We share a brain that contains that world.

17th-October-10 18:05 - 30-day fanfic Writing Meme, Day 15-17.
Day 15 – Warnings – What do you feel it most important to warn for, and what's the strangest thing you've warned for in a fic?
*grins* The strangest has to be this one: "Songfic (sort of), crack (definitely), incest, chan, bestiality, cannibalism, snuff, cross-dressing, rimming, snowballing, sounding, necrophilia, gang bang, non-con, dub-con, scat, prostitution and adultery, a bit of blasphemy- and generally yuckiness" - from a [info]daily_deviant entry I wrote with [info]pre_raphaelite1.
And I don't feel I have to warn for anything, but I do it anyway: Violence, rape, death - or obvious squicks like scat (have only written that in the above crack-Christmas-holiday-madness). I wouldn't want to trigger people who might be triggered by some of the above.

Day 16 – Summaries – Do you like them or hate them? How do you come up with them, if you use them?
I don't have any particular relationship with summaries, neither have I problems coming up with them.

Day 17 – Titles – Are they the bane of your existence, or the easiest part of the fic? Also, if you do chaptered fic, do you give each chapter a title, or not?
They usually pop up at some point during writing. Sometimes they are the reason I write the fic because I get the idea for a brilliant (according to me - or Oliver...) title. Chapters are usually titled in the same manner.

14th-October-10 08:13 - 30-Days Fanfiction Writing Meme, Day 14!
Day 14 – Ratings – how high are you comfortable with going? Have you ever written higher? If you're comfortable with NC-17, have you ever been shocked by finding that the story you're writing is G-rated instead?

BWAHAHA! Seeing that I got the idea for [info]daily_deviant almost five years ago and pushed the idea to my co-founders [info]ragdoll and [info]kabal42 I think it'd be fair to say that it takes quite a lot to shock me with anything. Basically, ratings are not exactly the first thing I think of when I write. Actually, I don't think of them at all.

2nd-October-10 14:07 - [info]elfflame's 30-day fanfic Writing Meme, Day 1.
I thought I'd play along, posting one question/answer a day is doable.

Day 1 – How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?

HP. I had no idea such a thing as fandom and fanfics existed. My neighbour told me about it during a discussion about the delicious properties of Snape doing it with Lucius. I went to google "fan fiction" and "harry potter" and it went downhill from there. After having read HP fics extensively for two weeks, I decided I could write things like that, and better. I was wrong. My first fic was crap (novel-length, although the plot was very good, I should really finish the re-write of that one). *grins*

What pulled me into fandom? The same that has kept me there: the sense of community, the marvellous people I met through forums and journals *huggles f-list)*, and the delicious thought of Severus and Lucius doing it together (and later on, Sev doing it with Percy and Remus as well). But basically I am a Snucius-shipper at heart. That love will never die.

30th-September-10 13:20 - Fic: Tweed (Severus Snape/Percy Weasley; PG-13)
Title: Tweed
Pairing: Percy/Severus
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: None
Word count: ~5,700
Notes: Written for [info]lordhellebore and the prompt "Percy/tweed" which fitted nicely with a story that could go on in my favourite London shop (Hornets at Kensington Church Walk, a street that hasn't changed much the last two hundred years). Weather forecast text taken from BBC's Paul Hudson's Weather & Climate Blog, 9th January 2010. (The coldest London winter in more than 30 years. It was horrible. I was there.)
Summary: London winter is remarkably cold, and so is Severus Snape: cold, alone, and dirt poor - all by choice. However, Severus begins to doubt the brilliance of that choice when he unexpectedly runs into an old acquaintance.

28th-September-10 21:16 - HP-RPers...
Anyone know of a (preferably post-war) HP RP, ongoing and stable, with grown-up players and without too much wank?

Characters? Yeah... Kingsley, Sev, Percy, Neville or Viktor. Or Oliver. That might shut him up.
23rd-September-10 10:54 - AHAHAHA! Brilliant distinction!
Denmark is a tiny country, but we have a very long and ongoing fight between two of the three larger parts of the country, Jutland (that's the part that is connected to Germany and where all the farm animals live) and Sealand (the large island close to Sweden, with Copenhagen on the far right). People from Jutland are seen as a bit slow and relaxed; people from Sealand are quick and smart and a bit selfish and unreliable. I just read this paragraph in a nice new book about the differences between the two parts of the country (not to be taken too seriously - at all!):

"Copenhagen chicks are willing to buy anything if the object in question is marked "Apple" and begins with a minor "i", like in iPhone, iPod, and iBook. If Apple ever launched a white, shiny wooden stick dubbed "iDiot", it would probably be an instant success in Copenhagen. Girls from Jutland really don't see the brilliance in buying computers twice as expensive as other computers - with half the features. Also Jutland-girls don't understand how Copenhagen chicks really believe that their Macbooks make them unique when all the other Copenhagen chicks also own one."

*sniggers*

Do I need to say I live in the Jutland-part currently (but that that exact argument about iAnything has been one I've advertised for years)?

*hides shiny new Japanese iPod under the table*

12th-September-10 18:55 - Returning to the virtual living...
Phew. Time is really too short, too little, not enough. But I want my journal (but not LJ's idiocy. Do I really need a DW account? I detest some of the people in the inner circle over there, to say it mildly!) Strangely enough, it seems as if I've actually learned from working my butt off in Japan; I am much better at handling the workload I have now, and I am even doing twice the required ECTS, plus my thesis. I am just that good. :D

Anyhow... and to make it brief: It seems as if I am finishing my MA in nine months, and that I am actually going to start my PhD (I still need the all the paperwork and the confirmation, depending on whether the proposed topic is acceptable, though) come summer. So... YAY. What I've worked so hard for these last years seems to finally happen.

Now, what with all my new-found structured life, I have restructured my fandom participation, because otherwise I'll Modernist myself to death. So I am friending a few comms, and a few more people, trying to manage f-lists and reading on top of the various academic stuff. Yeah, Japan actually did matter. *headdesk* And I haven't even written a report, or showed you pics...

If you have any recs for new, exciting comms I should try out, I'd appreciate them.

Anyway, if you are recently friended, it is because I like you and, now that I have the energy to actually be active, I would love to have you on my f-list. <3

Now, on to remove the annoying Twitter-Faecesbook posting thingies. Greasemonkey/CSS is such a beautiful pairing.

ETA: Oh, and blergh! That should teach me not to name-squat! I deleted Snapelike over at DW, and I can't rename to get it back when it's purged! Suggestions for a username, anyone, until I can have it back! "snape_like" or what? URGH! I WANT MY USERNAME NOW!!!
